Main Gallery: Jessica Quinn grew up in Waterloo, Iowa where she took all the art classes she could in high school, except drawing class, for fear of having to draw people. Photography class provided her an instrument to express her vision and headed her down the path of discovery to the subject matter that she works on today. Jessica received her Bachelors of Art in Art Education from the University of Northern Iowa where she discovered her love of painting in watercolor, ink, acrylic and oils. Later, she received her Master of Arts in Teaching from Viterbo University. She started her career as a high school art teacher in Kansas City, Kansas before moving to the Des Moines area where she taught elementary art for eight additional years. In 2014 Jessica made the tough decision to take a break from teaching and focus on her painting. She has spent the last three years immersing herself back into one of her first loves, art. The flower… many people “take time to smell the roses” but for the most part they don’t see them. Each bloom is as unique as we are, and deserves more attention than a cursory look. How the colors complement and contrast each other, the elegant movements and curves of the bloom. The play of the petals and the light, creating shimmers and shadows. In this show I wanted to give you a moment to enjoy how diverse and complex things can be if we take a little time to really look Side Gallery: “We Are Family” is a collaborative exhibit of the Comito family; all native Iowans. Cecelia Comito creates watercolor and collage. Cecelia is a practicing lawyer and has developed her art skills under the tutelage of Johnathon Talbot and various other artists in the Chicago area. She currently lives in Maryland. Jacqueline Comito makes pottery. Jackie a Doctor of Cultural Anthropology and currently works for Iowa State University Iowa Learning Farms. She teaches pottery at the Octagon Center for the Arts. She is currently residing in Ames, Iowa Kelsey Hall, daughter of Laura Comito, is an acrylic painter. She has received her Bachelor of Art and Bachelor of Psychology degrees from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. Painted Moods is what she calls her work- she paints her moods and feelings as a means of dealing with mental health issues. She is living in Carroll, Iowa. Laura Comito uses mixed media and jewelry as her medium. She studied art at Iowa State University and has been a professional artist since 1982 with her own studio/gallery, Art Works.
