Event Description: “Iowa’s Devoted Daughter” author Karla Wright will be presenting a program about the Ankeny family, founders of our community on Sunday, June 4 at 1 p.m. at the Ankeny Area Historical Society. She will talk about who the Ankenys were, the roles they played in the founding of our community, their part in the Civil War, their adventures and much more. Karla is the fifth great-granddaughter of Dewalt Ankeny, John Fletcher Ankeny’s great-grandfather. She is a retired Human Resource Management Consultant with a passion for family history and genealogy. “Iowa’s Devoted Daughter” is Karla’s first fiction book. The book is the story of Miss Harriet Louise Ankeny and her family. Harriet Louise Ankeny was the youngest sister of John Fletcher Ankeny, co-founder of Ankeny, Iowa. Open house of museums from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
